Message - Please add why fertility preservation means something to you. A personal story, a friend who struggled, your own fertility experience. For example:

My name is_____. I am proud to share I am a cancer survivor who fought and won three battles with cancer during my 30s. My experience with cancer meant that my life saving treatment had a direct effect on my ability to become a biological mother.

Many are not aware of the irreparable damage cancer treatment may have on one's fertility when diagnosed with cancer during childbearing years. Recommended treatment protocols such as surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and/or long-term drug therapy will often result in infertility. The very measures taken to save a life, may dictate the quality of life once one has battled and beaten cancer.

These procedures are not covered by most insurance companies and I would like to change that. The prohibitive out of pocket cost to preserve fertility ahead of treatment averages $15,000 in many US states; it also poses a real risk to the health and longevity of patients during and after treatment. For example, many women choose a less toxic dose of chemotherapy in order to mitigate potential effects on future fertility - even if it means their cancer may come back.

Approximately 23,500 OKLAHOMANS will be diagnosed with cancer in 2022 and those between 18-40 may be unable to have children unless they preserve their fertility. I want to create a brighter future for Oklahomans battling cancer.

I am working with The Chick Mission and a coalition comprised of cancer patients, health care providers, and supporters of Corinne's Law (named for a 29 year old OBGYN diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma who passed away in 2021) to advocate the passing of SB1599.

This bill would require health benefit plans regulated by the State of Oklahoma to provide coverage for fertility preservation service to a covered individual who will receive a medically necessary treatment that the American Society of Clinical Oncology or the American Society for Reproductive Medicine has established may directly or indirectly cause impaired fertility.

As your constituent, I urge you to take a stand for hundreds of young adult cancer patients in the state of Oklahoma and consider supporting this important legislation.
