My name is_____. I am proud to share I am a cancer survivor who fought and won three battles with cancer during my 30s. My experience with cancer meant that my life saving treatment had a direct effect on my ability to become a biological mother.

As a proud Georgia resident, I am writing you today to secure support for an issue that is important to myself and my family. It is not well known that many medically necessary treatments for young adults (18-40) diagnosed with cancer, lupus and sickle cell disease have a high likelihood of an irreversible side effect: Infertility.

Before undergoing fertility threatening protocols (chemotherapy, radiation, etc.), patients have an option to preserve fertility however these procedures are not covered by most insurance companies in the United States.

And now we have a chance to change this in our state. HB 94 would allow Georgian patients with private insurance access to fertility preservation care ahead of treatment – a measure that will allow these men and women a chance to build a family in the future.

This bill has moved through committee and a house vote with overwhelming support. I ask the members of the Senate Rules Commitee to vote favorably and send this life changing legislation to the governor’s desk.

I urge you to take a stand for young adults who must endear reproductive threatening medically necessary treatment in the state of Georgia and support HB 94 this session.
